WHY WE ARE HERE
Columbia is where Get Your Fence On started, and it is still the market we work most. Between the University, the hospitals and the neighbourhoods that ring them, we have set fence on everything from a narrow lot off Broadway to acreage out past the Route B turn.
Boone County, population about 128,000.
Columbia sits on rolling ground with limestone never far down. On the older streets south of downtown we hit rock inside the first two feet often enough that we bring the breaker as a matter of course - that is a dig problem, not a change order, and the quote says so before we start.
Campus-adjacent rentals, family streets in the south and west, and new builds out toward the edges all want different things from a fence. We quote all three the same way: measured on site, written down, and the number you approve is the number you pay.
Cedar privacy is still the default in Columbia and probably always will be - it suits the older streets and it takes stain well. What has changed is how much black aluminium we put in on the south and west sides, where people want the yard closed without losing the view of it. Around the rentals near campus, chain-link earns its keep: it is cheap to maintain, it survives tenants, and a landlord replacing one section does not have to match a stain.
Columbia is the one town where we can usually get a crew out the same week, because it is the shortest drive we make. That also means we can come back. A gate that drops half an inch in its first season is a twenty minute visit here, not a scheduling problem, and we would rather fix it than argue about whether it moved.
