Excelsior Springs, MO — the Hall of Waters, the Elms and the Fishing River.
WHY WE ARE HERE
Excelsior Springs is the old resort town of the Northland: the Hall of Waters, the Elms, and streets that climb out of the Fishing River valley in every direction. The older houses sit on slopes, the newer subdivisions ring the hills above, and almost nothing is flat.
Clay County, population about 11,000.
Hills and, in places, rock not far under them. A fence line here usually steps, and some holes meet limestone before they meet depth. We walk the line on the visit so we know where the auger will bite and where it will not, and we quote the rock before it surprises anyone.
The valley streets are narrow and the houses are close, so a fence is a shared thing here; your neighbour sees more of it than you do. We design to the street and we talk about what the back side looks like, because in Excelsior Springs somebody is always looking at it.
Stepped cedar and vinyl privacy on the hillsides, ornamental and picket around the older homes, and aluminum in the subdivisions on the ridge where the covenants ask for it.
Steep drives, narrow streets and tight access: we scout the approach on the visit and we hand-carry more here than anywhere else in the metro. Rock adds time, and we tell you that up front rather than on the day.
