WHY WE ARE HERE
Jefferson City is a half hour south of our shop and we are there most weeks. It is a town of older housing stock and serious grade - the bluffs above the Missouri River mean a good share of back yards fall away from the house.
Cole County, population about 43,000.
Slope is the whole job here. A fence run downhill either steps or rakes, and which one you want changes how the line reads from the street. We show you both on site before anything is dug, because it is not a decision to make from a phone call.
Historic districts near the Capitol come with their own expectations about what belongs on a street. We will tell you honestly when a style will look wrong for the block, even when it is the cheaper one.
Because so many yards here fall away, the style conversation usually turns into a height conversation. A six foot privacy fence on the downhill side can read as eight from below, which neighbours notice. We often end up on a stepped cedar run or on ornamental where the grade is severe - it keeps the sight line open and it does not loom over the street below.
The capital keeps us honest on parking and access. Narrow older streets, alley approaches, and driveways that were poured for smaller vehicles. We scout the approach when we measure, so on install day the truck goes where we already know it fits rather than blocking your street while somebody figures it out.
