Lexington, MO — the Battle of Lexington State Historic Site, the Lafayette County courthouse and the river bluffs.
WHY WE ARE HERE
Lexington is a river bluff town with more antebellum brick than anywhere else on this stretch of the Missouri. The Battle of Lexington site sits above the river, the courthouse still wears its Civil War cannonball, and the yards behind those old houses drop away fast toward the water.
Lafayette County, population about 4,500.
Loess bluffs. The soil is deep, silty and easy to dig, and it washes out just as easily on a slope: a fence line on the bluff side has to be planned around drainage or the first big rain undercuts the posts. We walk the grade with you before we quote and say where a fence should step and where it should not go at all.
A fence in the historic district is part of the street, and the neighbours will have opinions. Picket, ornamental iron and low cedar belong on those blocks; a six foot vinyl privacy fence usually does not, and we will tell you that before you buy it.
Picket and ornamental near the square, cedar privacy on the newer streets south of town, and farm fence once you are out on the county roads. Steep back yards mean stepped runs, which cost more to build well and look wrong when they are not.
Narrow streets, brick, mature trees and steep drives: Lexington is a hand-carry town. We scout the access on the estimate visit so nobody is dragging panels up a bluff on install day without a plan.
