Carrollton is the Carroll County seat, a courthouse-square town on the high ground with Wakenda Creek below it and the Missouri River bottoms stretching south. The streets are quiet, the lots are generous, and the edge of town is farm ground in every direction.

Two soils, one town. Up on the square the ground is clay over loess and digs like most of north Missouri. Drop toward the creek or out onto the bottom ground and it turns to deep alluvial silt with water close under it in spring.
