WHY WE ARE HERE
Marshall sits up on the Saline County upland with Missouri Valley College in the middle of it and the courthouse square a few blocks over. It is older brick neighbourhoods, a ring of newer streets, and farm ground starting almost as soon as the town ends.
Saline County, population about 13,000.
The upland here is deep silt loam, about the best digging in the state: posts go in clean and stay put. The exception is the bottom ground north of town toward the river, where the water table rides high in spring and a hole can fill before the post is in it. We check which side of that line your yard is on before we quote.
A lot of Marshall's housing is rental near the college and older homes near the square, so we see two kinds of jobs: a landlord who wants a plain, durable fence that survives tenants, and an owner who wants the fence to suit a house that has been there a hundred years. We do not quote them the same way.
Cedar privacy and picket near the square, chain-link around the rentals, and board or woven-wire fence on the acreages at the edge. Vinyl does well on the newer streets, where nobody wants to stain anything.
Marshall is an easy town to stage in. The blocks near the square have alleys, the newer subdivisions have room at the curb, and the drive in from the highway is short. Mature trees are the thing to watch; we walk the line for roots before the auger comes off the truck.
